Mental health counseling is a formal, purposeful partnership between a client and a mental health professional. Mental health counseling isn’t just for people who struggle with mental health, but for anyone who has concerns about mental health at any given time. Sometimes just being able to talk about your problem helps you see a solution more clearly. Your counselor is trained to ask certain questions to help you discover a solution on your own. This way, you will have the tools you need to find solutions on your own outside of counseling. Counselors provide support, resources, confidentiality, and judgment-free guidance.

Some of the most common problems people go for help include:

Difficulty concentrating or completing work or academic tasks
Family or relationship problems
Self-defeating behaviors and habits such as procrastination
Issues due to grief and loss
Problems with stress-management
Coping with traumatic events
Domestic violence or sexual assault
Depression or lack of motivation
Acute panic attacks or anxiety
Problems with medication management
Anger problems
Sexual worries
Compulsive behaviors

Tricia Grant, MSW, Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist

(She/Her Pronouns)

Are you seeking to make changes in your life to achieve your goals and create a lifestyle that supports your personal aspirations and mental health? Are you looking for a therapist to support you along your journey? I am a therapist that has devoted my private practice to supporting racialized folks, students and individuals living with invisible disabilities. I am passionate about helping individuals no matter what label they live with or the social class they identify with, applying an anti-oppressive framework to enhance one’s self-worth and quality of life. It is important for me to advocate for social justice, develop collaborative plans, promote equity, and support individuals that are experiencing conflict within the criminal justice system or face systemic barriers due to colonial practices. Together we can determine the right therapeutic approaches to achieve your goals and guide you in the direction of your choice.

My approach is client-centred, trauma-informed, non-judgmental, collaborative, strengths-based, and goal-oriented. I utilize cognitive-behavioural-based interventions, incorporating various modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Task Focus Therapy, System Therapy, Mindfulness, etc. It is essential for us to develop rapport, a sense of connection, and foster a space where you feel comfortable sharing.

My areas of focus:

• Invisible Intellectual Disabilities • Anxiety • Depression • Rejection • Stress Management • Low Self-Esteem (centering your voice) • Isolation • Relationship Issues • Work or School Difficulties • Family Conflict • Self-Care • Trauma • Acquired Brain Injury • Domestic Violence (Partner intimate violence) • Grief or Loss My experiences working as a counsellor began in 2003. I have a Master’s in Social Work and Diploma in Child and Youth Care. Currently, I work within the social service field offering counselling support to individuals impacted by systemic mental health barriers and experiencing difficulties navigating within an ableist society.
